About
Pamela Harvey is a neuroscientist and medical writer with 20 years of experience in research and science communications. After completing bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Physiology and Neurobiology, Dr. Harvey performed research in the Neurobiology Department at Harvard Medical School. She went on to complete a PhD in Neuroscience at Tufts University School of Medicine, where she performed research aimed at identifying factors that promote neuronal regeneration after spinal cord injury. Her work was the focus of a clinical trial initiated by Biogen on treating neuropathic pain.
During her postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Biology and Cardiology at University of Colorado Boulder, her research focused on the influence of biological sex and hormones on heart disease and responses to chemotherapeutics. Upon completion of her fellowship, she was offered a faculty position in molecular biology.
Dr. Harvey developed large laboratory courses that offered students authentic research experiences in drug discovery and ran a research program focused on identifying novel mechanisms mediating the development of multiple sclerosis. She also taught Molecular Neurobiology, a capstone course offered to molecular biology majors and PhD candidates.
Dr. Harvey is a passionate scientist who is highly motivated to make science relatable and understandable to everyone. She has won many awards commending her research and teaching efforts, including being named a teaching professor of distinction at University of Colorado, an honor given to less than 1% of professors on the campus.
