About
Sherrell Lam earned her BA in English, with a pre-medical concentration, at the State University of Buffalo. She then earned her MD at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. It was there that she fell in love with the poetic field of Psychiatry. She completed a dual Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and spent 13 years practicing as an Army psychiatrist.
During her military career, she worked in consultation-liaison, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, in two different Warrior transition brigades and as a substance use disorder clinical consultant.
Her varied life experiences are reflected in her publications, which include submissions in Reader’s Digest, first place selection in the 2018 Bethesda magazine short story and essay contest, several peer-reviewed journal articles, and a textbook chapter on psychotropic medications in HIV care. Her special interests include post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and somatoform spectrum disorders.
